For a whole house, why not use top quality (but cost effective)
wooden laminate flooring. Top brand European wooden laminate floors
are durable, dent-resistant, pest-resistant and fire-resistant, and suitable
to the humid Hong Kong climate. Moreover, high quality laminate flooring resists
staining and fading much better than wood and natural stone while providing unique
looks and appeal and is easy to clean and maintain. Also, wooden laminate
floors (usually planks) are easy and economical to install, maintain and replace.
Unlike natural wood, laminate floors do not require waxing, oiling or staining.
and come in a variety of colours and finishes and with accompanying
skirtings. Nevertheless, you should avoid sitting water and spills as this can
cause the planks to swell, warp etc. (although professionally installed planks
should return to their original flat shape after drying out). A tip: try to avoid
sharp and heavy metal objects such as chairs and sofas with metal legs and bases
as if roughly handled they can scratch the laminate. Protective rubber covers
on the metal bases can protect against scratch marks.
If you prefer and insist on real wooden floors, there is a very wide price and
quality range, so you can choose according to your budget and taste.
However, you should be aware that wood is prone to warping, expansion
and contraction according to the weather and environmental
conditions, and if you live in the countryside and in high
humidity, natural wood is prone to pests and termites and needs
anti-pest control.
Carpets can provide a warm, homey feeling but are less hygienic,
as they are prone to bugs and those difficult-to-rid stains.
We advise smaller, easy to manage rugs to provide that warm touch.
If you are a carpet fan, they can be washed and disinfected at economic
cost perhaps once or twice a year by a professional carpet cleaning
company.
Q: Is it better to wallpaper my walls, rather than to paint?
A: There has never been a richer selection of wallpaper designs, colours and ideas
to suit your every need. Wallpapering can provide a unique style and atmosphere
in your office, dining room, living room, bedroom or children's playroom.
